Have seen a number of them towed 4 wheels down. No first hand experience.
But, if you have questions about your beetle, I worked my way through school turning wrenches on them. 1965 was the last of the 1200 CC 40 HP's. Went to 1300 for one year only (1966) and then to 1500 in 1967. Probably the fastest U.S. beetle ever, as it was pre emission, pre "big bumper.
