On my 2002 Chevy Express I have a 30 Gallon tank and get 6mpg towing. I'm stopping for gas too often following the don't pass gas below a quarter philosophy. Is there a way, is it practical to install...

Based on much experience, most full-size North American trucks and vans have several gallons of gas in the tank at the 'empty' mark. While riding shotgun in a rented Chevy cargo van earlier this year we were forced to run it nearly dry when the planned fuel stop was closed up for renovations.
When we got to the next fuel station and filled up it took 37.3 gallons to fill a '30 gallon' tank.
This is not the norm. I imagine you were dealing with a US vs. Canada conversion factor
