With a 2008 as your tow vehicle, if it came from the factory with the 7 pin there will be an "OEM" connector on the back of it. This makes replacing the plug very easy as you only need to head to your local towing supply store and get a new one. If the connector is aftermarket and a hard wire you can still replace it but it takes more work.
the covers and springs wear out over time and let the plugs fall out. I even converted my Class A hardware to an OEM connector to make replacements in the future easier.
