Using Roadmaster or BlueOx's sites, you can see what their design approaches were. Look up their model number for your specific Ranger, then download the install directions. There'll be a representation of the parts.

You're not only paying for the "2 peices of flat stock and square tube with holes in them..."
You're paying for the engineering, manufacture, office and factory staff and, of course, a website (BlueOx, for instance....that's what I have on all my toads, past and present).....insurance, what else? Oh, yeah...taxes. I don't think the profit margin is that much.

You're now into RVs. Like boats and motorcycles, a bottom-less pit you just throw money into. ENJOY!

rk the truck I already own, it weighs 3700 + - with 3/4 tank of fuel. rv can tow up to 5K. tow bar rated for 6K.

Just need to locate either the receiver mounts or a picture or 2 so they can be made locally. Find it kind of hard to pay 3-400$ for 2 pieces of flat stock and square tube with holes in them! Oh and about 8 nuts and bolts.

HANK, Before you buy anything you need to know just how much weight your MH can aafely tow without exceeding the various weight ratings...gross combination weight rating (GCWR), gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and each axle's gross axle weight rating (GAWR). you also need to know the curb weight of the vehicle you're planning to buy and whether that curb weight includes a full tank of gas (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't).

the maximum amount of weight you can safely tow will be the lesser of the following:

- the GCWR minus the actual weight of the MH as it is loaded for travel (food, fuel, water, LP, clothing, supplies, pets, people and misc. stuff); OR

- the weight rating of the MH hitch (Class II 3500-lbs, Class III 5000-lbs, Class IV 10,000-lbs); OR

- the weight rating of your towbar

load up the MH as you would for travel and then get individual axle weights at a certified scale. compare those axle weights to the published gross axle weight rating (GAWR) for that motorhome. the actual axle weight must be less than/equal to the rating for that axle. add the two axle weights to arrive at the total rolling weight and then apply the three conditions above. assume nothing.

Makarios RV seems to have the best price on base plates right now, with free shipping. I think by the time you had somebody fab one, you could buy something that's been engineered and validated to work.

I thought I read somewhere that you were getting Roadmaster equipment so that's what I showed. Makarios has the other popular brand, Blue Ox, plus a third brand.

Did you check Hitchtrader.com?
Maybe someone is selling what you need.
