Wow- I can't believe the things that bother some people. Wow.
^^^^ This.
I think it's an accumulation of things being material and social.
Years ago no one had cell phones, internet, computers. There were less people camping, less people on the hwys period.
We've become such a social media world that its hard to get any quiet time without driving out in the boonies. 25 yrs ago no one hardly fired up a generator let alone talked on the cell phone. Think back 25 years ago what it would be like for the OP. It would've been quiet. People still like being out in the woods camping but the idea of getting back to nature is long gone unless you are a backpacker or boondocker.
Fewer people respect other peoples space. You can't go anywhere without hearing or seeing someone on a cell phone. Privacy left the earth when the internet and cell phones appeared. Almost no one goes anywhere without some kind of electronic device that can communicate in one way or another.
With that being said I never leave home without my phone. :)
