- FarmerkevExplorerI'm much more concerned about keep the radiator, condenser and coolers clean than the engine.
Guess I'm odd. - ScottGNomad

To me at least, all those things are part of "the engine" along with battery posts and cable connections. - 185EZExplorer

There's no good reason to clean them but I keep mine clean never the less. A clean engine is much easier to see leaks on.
Be it pride in ownership, working on it myself or what ever, there are positives to doing so and certainly no reason not to. I also spray water in the nooks and crannies of the body work to get dirt accumulation out that wouls otherwise trap moisture and result in premature rust.
Also, I would much rather buy from a person who has meticulously maintained their vehicle.
Exactly!
You can tell right away if someone has cared for their rig.
This isn't about whether or not you want to or it needs it but for those of that like to do it.
We all don't listen to the same music.
gitrclean! - MitchF150Explorer IIII did this awhile ago on a truck I don't have anymore, but it was needed..
You can use a pressure washer too... Just keep the tip about a foot or more away from anything, then it's just a mist that rinses it off.. With a HOSE, you are dumping gallons of water on at a time where the pressure washer is only just using a fraction of the volume of water..
But, whatever floats your boat! ha, ha! Do whatever works best for you.
Mitch - old_guyExplorerI don't keep a car long enough to clean one
- VeebyesExplorer III got inspired enough enough by a Youtube video to at least think about cleaning my 14 year old car engine. Got as far as whatever would move with the compressor hose & said NUTS to it. The engine compartment had been sprayed with a black rust inhibitor from new & I don't want to move any of that.
My boat is another matter. The engine is bright white. This way any hose or oil leaks show very easily. Dirt is not an issue on the water. - navegatorExplorerI wonder how many of you clean not only the engine compartment but also the transmission and the rear end?
I have seen a lot of vehicles with clean engines, some even looked detailed and when you look at the underside they are a verytable grease pit.

I do stop at a car wash form time to time and blast off the undercarriage. Just a rinse really, I don't hit gasket sealed area's, u-joints, etc. with high pressure. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIBe VERY careful with such corossive cleaners as they can get into electrical connections.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIII will say I've never had an engine fail to start due to water getting sprayed in places it shouldn't be. I have seen people at the car wash trying to start their cars after cleaning that engine bay very nicely. Looked great, if you like stationary cars. :)
