A different type of RVing memories

Back in the day, we also did RVing in my Cessna 182 Skylane. I took out the back seat so as to have plenty of room for all the camping gear and supplies (including folding bikes).
Flew the Alcan to Alaska, and also spent months exploring Mexico (based out of Delicias Chihuahua, where I have family):

  • That's nice having a 182 to do that in. That's big enough that you can carry all the comforts you need for some extended camping. I'm guessing you don't have that plane anymore? Those things seem to sell for a small fortune now.
  • I carried a 2-person tent, 2" inflate mattress, sleeping bags, and a large lightweight tarp for draping over the right wing.
At fly-in events I would be equipped to make breakfast burritos(scramble eggs, with papas con chorizo). I also brewed, on a separate Coleman stove, a big pot of quality coffee. Needless to say, there was no shortage of people who wanted to friend me.....:B

I gotta say, we decided to give up on traveling in small airplanes because of several limitations. Traveling in a big motorhome allows us to take our lap dogs, our daily driver, our bathroom, our kingsize bed, our kitchen, etc, etc, etc.
The flying was great primarily because we're both pilots and loved the flying part of it.
  • I always thought that traveling by your own small plane would be a cool way to travel. But I've never felt comfortable enough flying to ever do it myself.
