A peeve of mine.

In my opinion car drivers are usually in such a hurry they don't have time to be courteous and acknowledge that some one has done them a favour.

Not sure why they are always in a rush, but as time goes on they seem to be more so.

The ones that do wave are probably truckers or RV'ers.

I have had many people beep there horn after I pulled over plus others showing that I am number one by there middle finger. But I have been towing for over 55 years

They are all quite well intentioned and impressed with your considerate behavior but by the time they decided whether to put down the cell phone or the big mac so they can wave or flash their lights, you have disappeared over the horizon....

I suspect many drivers are simply not in the habit of signaling to other vehicles, except for warning with the horn on rare occasions. That doesn't mean they don't appreciate those who pull over to let faster traffic go by. A wave would be nice, but maybe just presume unexpressed gratitude on the part of those who don't appear to react.

Just about every time I have pulled off to let others by, I have received a thumbs up, a wave or a friendly toot of the horn. That is mainly in PA and WV, though. I would never get that around here, where I live. Here, I have to back into my driveway from a four lane road, divided by a left and right turning lane. It takes me all of two minutes to do, but those cars just have to drive around me on the wrong side of the road, the drivers flipping me off and blowing their horns.

Drivers in Northern Virginia and the DC area, in general, are the most selfish people in the world.

I do it as much for me as for the ones behind me. Once they're gone I can stop watching their efforts to find a way around me.

I usually honk or wave when someone pulls over and I am able to pass, whether in a car or on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, it's not very often someone does that, but it does happen occasionally.

I think as a society, some of us are becoming very self-centered, and think that everything should revolve around us... it's the Me syndrome, and it's very evident on the roads... I would not be surprised if most of the people who we let by only have one thought on their mind as they pass (it's about friggin time!). But oh well... doing the right thing is doing the right thing, and those of us who know the difference hopefully can pass it on successfully to others.

I am with Corkey 05. I get stressed with traffic behind me on a narrow road. I am always sure one nut is going to break out and pass. He could damned well take us all to the morgue. I am never in that big a hurry. Life is short death is long.

So don't pull over anymore. Then the problem is solved. They'll be sure to show their appreciation when they have a clear shot to get by you, you can almost count on that.
