I too have often thought of purchasing an older 4X4 version of the Ford van but the reputed gas mileage that the 460 engine gets is a big turn-off for me too. FWIW, I've been busy setting up my 25mpg Dodge Caravan for a late spring Alaska road trip. I posted some photos on this same General RVing Issues forum.
