My father-in-law experienced a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side and very weak on his right. Actually, his wife (my mother-in-law) is a pretty creative woman and fabricated a seat that rested inside the bath tub and extended over the side. All her husband had to do was sit on the seat, and then she could help him lift his legs over the side.
The seat could be modified to rest on both sides of the tub and not extend farther than the outer wall with stops underneath to prevent it from sliding off the wall ledge.
I did a Google search for Bath Tub seat, and there are some out there, made of plastic that are similar to what my in-laws used. (Although I think theirs was much more creative).
Apart from using a bathtub seat, I would not know of any way to make it easier. Your wife will no doubt still need help getting in, either sitting and swinging her legs over the tub, or simply stepping over the side.
I wish you well in your search for an easy solution.
