Advice needed on small towable truck

Plan on getting into this lifestyle full time in about 6 months, so this is my first post. Currently looking into a small truck to use as my dinghy and carry my motorcycle. Question is can a older manual transmission Chevy S-10, Ford Ranger or similar be towed w/o issues. (tow vehicle will be 27-29 ft Class A or C) Thanks !

  • A Ranger/S-10 should be able to carry a Goldwing based on specs posted on the web. I would be concerned about the tail wagging the dog with that kind of weight riding in the bed of the truck. You might be better off with a Silverado or F150 for stability. Both are available relatively inexpensively depending on how old you are willing to go.
  • I transported my Yamaha V-MAX in my Ford Ranger many times.
    It was never an issue.
    V-MAX weighed 630#

    As for 4 down towing????
Maybe maybe not.......depends on year, tranny and 4x4/4x2 etc. Not all Rangers are same.

Here is a site to check 4 down towing
  • Lots of RVers use jeeps as a dinghy. I've seen some with a motorcycle rack on the back of the jeep for lightweight bikes (like a dirt bike). Others have used a special lift on their motorhome to carry a large road bike but still be able to hitch up a dinghy at the same time

    Something like this --- http://www.cruiserlift.com/cruiserlift.html
  • Could be, but depending on the weight of your bike, might not be suitable. Most small trucks are lucky to carry 500 pounds in the bed.
