Advice on Several Issues

I had my Class C into the shop for repairs. Had many problems with the repair place, too many to mention here. They also had it for 5 months which was crazy. When I finally got it, I found many problems. One is they had taken down my awning and put it back when they had completed a new roof. I went to use the awning and it came down just fine but when I went to put it back up, it wouldnt roll up. Had to have someone in campground come with a ladder and we had to manually roll it up. Question is, should the repair place have adjusted the tension because they had taken it down??
Other question is, the black rubber that goes around the outside of the windows. Several of mine have shrunk. I was a bit concerned that water could leak inside. They told me it is just decorative and has nothing to do with water leaking. Just curious as to whether this is true?
  • If they removed your awning without installing pins to prevent the springs from releasing, then they should have re-wound the tension on the springs. It would be good to know why they removed the swning for better reply.
The black screw cover rubber molding prevents water from getting into the screw areas which can leak into the walls. I have removed the rubber and treated with Armoral or something like it to clean the rubber and soften it slightly to make more manageable. When installing it back in it will stretch slightly. I install it with the ends on the bottom near one of the weep holes.
Sounds like you need to find a better shop!
  • I can't believe after major repairs you did not check this stuff out before you left the lot. I am sure they would have rewound your spring tension, simple job. I sure would check anything else they touched.
  • Homer, you have no idea what I went thru with that place...I will never step foot in that place again..So many things were done wrong or were never done. I am trying to compile a list, along with pictures now. I was suppose to be on the road weeks before I actually left. Was told it would take 1-2 mos at most and ended up being 5 mos! Couldnt just take it because they had my cabinets and furniture out of it, in fact sitting outside for 2 mos with only a roof overhead. They told me they would have my furniture steam cleaned before I left because it had been sitting out, they did and then charged me $300 for it!! I held out some money and they will not be getting it. I am prepared if they take me to court with pictures.
Hate to say they took advantage of a woman, but am thinking maybe they did..
  • The shop should have done whatever was needed to put the awning back into working condition.

The plastic strip on the window trim is just decorative to cover the screw heads.
