When it comes to manual awnings, I've seen that many times. Some folks prefer it that way to having the arms at an angle makes it easier to move about.
I have a class A with a power awning, There was no way to get around that problem since the arms do not detach.. Wound up (With a bit of encouragement) taking 4 feet off the length of the awning and moving the arm back to the other side of the door.. Works great now but no longer over the door. need 2nd (Short) awning
