Alaska water

Friends going to travel to Alaska in July. Has a problem with sulfur or sulfate in the water and foods. Anyone know if the drinking water there has sulfur in it?

  • All of the water we used last summer was good. No sulfur that I detected. He could just use bottle water.
  • I didn't get any bad water while in Alaska. I filled up at many county and municipal parks.
  • Remember Alaska is a big place - covers lots area. I haven't heard of sulphate problems. Some places have the best of water and others may have high iron content like around North Pole. Some of the springs north of Fbks have arsenic, but the people drink it all of the time. He'll just have to ask as he goes.

You would probably get more / better answers posting this question over in the Alaska - Canada section.
  • Interesting question.

There are active volcano in Alaska, what affect that has on ground water, I do not know. I did a quick google on the subject and nothing jumped out at me from major sources, such as USGS or Environment Canada. There is some concern of very high arsenic content (natural) in the ground water...
