We only use our on board water tank. We add on tsp of bleach per 10 gal, just what our owners manual calls for. We add water via the big opening, never use the city water connection. Easy to do, never had an algae problem.
We did "shock" our home well shortly after it was drilled down 183 ft. Never have had an algae problem since.
