Seems like I read on this Forum that either choice doesn't have much capacity.

Stacked units that I see at Home Depot and Lowes run all the way from 2.2 to 4+ cu ft for wash loads. Just depends on how much room you have for an install. The smaller stackable units are about 24" wide, 25" deep and about 72" high when stacked. They're also ventless, but they do require a 240v hookup so they'd only work in an RV set up for 50a.
  • We've had both the all-in-one and stacked versions. As long as the single unit is a vented model it'll work fine. The key for them is SMALL loads.

The advantage of the stacked units is you can do a lot more laundry in less time. That's what we have now and love it.

  • We have a Splendide vented combo in ours bought new in 2007. DW loves it. Still works great. Loads are relatively small. Newer models are somewhat larger. We just put in a load, set it to wash and dry, go about our daily business, and come back later to a clean dry load of laundry. If there is more laundry to do, just repeat the process. Never have to sit around a laundromat waiting for it to complete. We only use a laundromat if we have a lot of clothes we need right away.
  • Stacked pair= you have to be around to transfer wet clothes from one to the other.
Combo unit= load dirty clothes, take out clean dry clothes.
It really ends up a personal preference and what you have room for. We like the ability to load, start and go away. Clean clothes come out ready to fold andmout away. No matter which you choose, small loads is the key.
  • We have a combo in our 96 Southwind. We love it and, it's great for the convenience.

However, I would opt for a stacked unit, especially if you plan to live in the unit 2/3 of the year.

The combo can only do small loads and its slow.

Get a stacked unit, you will be happier.
The convenience of a W/D far outweighs it's weight and the space it takes up.
  • Have been told the all in one. Be sure to get it vented. Some love them others hate them. Some don't want to give up their closet space.

We have had a Kenmore stackable washer/dryer in our trailer. Have lived in our trailer full-time since October 9, 2004. The only problem has been the washer had to have some work done on it in the fall of 2012. Otherwise it just keeps on going.

When it was down had to go to a laundry mat. No thanks. Glad when we got it repaired.
  • What make and model?
I wouldn't want a w/d in an RV due to concerns about leaks, load capacity and overall maintenance but everyone has their own wants and priorities.
  • Yes they are ****, change the request to a stacked washer and dryer - we hated the all in one kind
