Thanks for the responses! To answer your questions; It is indeed my dream as opposed to my DH's right now. I hope it becomes his too but he is definitely willing to explore the idea. His business is going to be internet based. He is currently working on getting it up and running. He will have to do a lot of traveling for it. $900 in RV park expenses a month is more than I counted on. But it would be cheaper than most of our living situations have been up until the last 6 months. We would not be making payments on a Class A, we would have to save and buy it outright. If we bought a house, we would have to save and buy it outright as well. DH's philosophy with money has made a 180 and he believes that we should buy all things outright without loans no matter what the purchase. So unless we got a super cheap house, the RV would be the cheaper way to go. The third option would be to rent an apartment or house. As for the idea of living and starting a business in a couple of rooms in our house, we are just about doing that as our current residence is tiny (as was our previous one). We have had the "American Dream Home" in the past and we both agree, we don't want to go down that path again. DH says that it is indeed actually tough to focus on his business with a lot of other stuff going on. Part of that problem is because he doesn't have a room he can close off to devote to his work. I was *hoping* that if we did this than DH could do business from the bedroom portion which would be able to be closed off a bit from the rest of the space.
As for the kids, right now they are too young to really have a say (in fact, they literally can't). My 4 year old is language delayed and my one year old doesn't talk yet. I don't know how they would feel about it growing up though. It would be interesting to hear if any of you know of families who did this with children, what their children thought.
For medical insurance we are looking into Medi-Share.
Thanks for the questions and insight as I don't want to go into this wearing rose-colored glasses and it is hard to know whether to take my in-laws seriously because my FIL is the type who finds the fault in everything.
ETA: We currently own two cars. We would sell one and tow the other. It is a Prius so gets decent gas mileage. If the RV has to go in the shop we'll be up the creek and in a motel unless we are able to get it to one of our parent's states. They both have plenty of space to house our family (in fact we are currently with my in-laws). I would also like to travel in the RV (and hopefully DH's business would be going well enough that we could write some of it off but I probably can't count on that). I'm sure the traveling part of RV living must add a large expense?
