Amazon Fernly closing?

I read that Amazon is closing the Fernly location and moving it to Reno after the first of the year. Is this true? Are they still going to use work campers next year? Does anyone know if there are campgrounds near the new facility?

I worked in Coffeville a few years ago, another location that I heard will be closing. Is Amazon moving away from their Camperforce? I was considering Fernly next year.

I would also like to know what the weather is like in that area during the Amazon season. Coffeville was cold and wet but we toughed it out for the weeks we we there.

I know Amazon (the company) monitors this website, maybe they can clarify this

Thanks as always
  • Wish they had a campground near the Middletown De. location as I see they hire a lot of seasonal people there for Christmas rush, I heard Cyber Monday they broke their record for shipping, I work their as a subcontractor to move trailers on & off their doors to help their operation run.
  • guess we are not going to talk about this any more.. oh well
  • good info. not happy to hear of locations for campers being removed/moved. Was hoping to be in the middle of it all.. aka, working at one of the locations in the near future or so, so bummed :)

I heard some campers from Campbellville,ky were shifted to Louisville location for the last month to help them catch up.

Was wonder if that might be a solution for other locations to help with season back logs in the future? or was this a one off type event. Glad to hear business is great at amazon and look forward to my purchases this season.
  • Hi Lurker52 - I am working hard to get at least one location in the West as I know we have a lot of campers who prefer to stay close to the West Coast. We have fewer locations on the West Coast so I'll be my persuasive best! I know it's not economically feasible for folks to travel 3/4th of the way across America for a seasonal job.

Soon as I have any new information, I'll be posting it.

    Take care!
  • I guess the question was answered by Petruschke regarding the use of workampers. Just as an FYI, I will answer the question of campgrounds. There are campgrounds close, a small one Shamrock RV Park, on Parr Blvd (2 exits away). The better fit might be the rv park at the Grand Sierra Casino, ( approx. 6 exits away) it's pretty large and they do have monthly rates during the winter, not summer. It will be interesting to see what evolves.
  • I hope you have locations in the west. TN and KY are a long way for those who prefer to stay in the west. It would not pay to travel that far.

    Thanks
  • Hello Campers,

To answer some questions, we are closing Coffeyville in February of 2015. Our Fernley location is moving into Reno and will have a very different mix of products that may not lend itself to using campers as they will be large products not usually having a peak season - that decision will be made after they have moved into the new building in March/April 2015. We currently have 2 open locations, Murfreesboro, TN and Campbellsville, KY. As the program manager for CamperForce I am currently in talks with several other Amazon Fulfillment Center locations to see if the CamperForce Program would be a fit for them.

We are currently closed to any further applications for this year. I generally post new job requisitions for campers on January 15th or thereabouts so we precede the Quartzsite & Tampa RV Shows. After that date please keep checking our website at www.amazon.com/camperforce for any new locations.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact me at any time at petrusch@amazon.com

    Safe Travels!

  • Amazon is moving from Fernely to Reno, about 35 miles away. The weather in winter can be nice or windy, cold, rainy or snow. Go on-line to determine the average highs and lows for Reno for the months you are interested in. Reno has lot of shopping, restaurants and other amenities that Fernley did not. There are several RV parks in the area.
