Most have forgotten or never knew the intent of our 2nd Amendment.... Is to allow the common citizen to protect itself from an overreaching government. This also allows one the ability to protect him/her self from a violent person. The first thing that many of the tyrannical governments of the world did, was to disarm it's people (Nazi Germany, Russia, China, ect.). It would indeed be a beautiful world if weapons of any nature Were Not Needed! memtb
I'm not going to discuss the intent of the 2nd Amendment since that isn't what this thread is about merely point out some factual inaccuracies posted about gun control in Nazi Germany, post revolution USSR and "Red China".
Gun control laws were instituted during the Weimar Republic and loosened by the Reich in defiance of the Versailles Treaty that ended WWI. All perceived and actual political enemies were no longer allowed to have guns as well as most peoples in occupied countries. Approximately 15 years after the death of the Tsar most citizens of the republic either had guns or legal access to them; as an aside more Soviets died during WW2 than any other country. As for China, a series of civil wars and invasions prior to the start of World War II made any gun control laws merely paper.
As I recall, the first controls that widely affected Germans when the 3rd Reich came into being was restrictions in radio ownership and censorship of newspapers.
