And they want me to shop locally....

I have need of an older style A/C cover. On-line I find new at $130.00 from Amazon and used for $40 thru an E Bay seller. Here at home..I am just off the phone to the local RV dealer/robber...$240.00 for new.

  • One question for you all.

Have you never driven through Smalltown USA when a Walmart has set up shop just outside the city limits.

Now put online shopping in the mix.

If you don't support your local businesses everything will get boarded up and look dead, dead, dead. Most of you are halfway there.

Life is not just about you.

What do I do when I'm driving through your town and I have to replace a shroud?
Order online and wait for it?
  • Online sales is the reason some of the large retailers are having financial troubles. The marketplace is changing and retailers need to change with it. I find it difficult to understand when I run across a local retailer who doesn't also have a robust online presence. Many of the local RV parts dealers have websites but they don't have an online catalog where you can shop for parts. That's no way to compete with Amazon, E-bay or even Camping World.
  • Here in our part the local towns people had bumper stickers made up and affixed them to the rear bumpers on all city and county vehicles and also offered them to the locals townspeople to affix to there vehicles if they so wished, what a joke as we have enough of a problem finding good groceries at a reasonable price locally. What a waste of taxpayers money. The sticker reads:

Shop Locally you'll find it here. :S

Are you talking a canvas style cover or the fiberglass shroud?

    The fiberglass cover/shroud.

  • If you mean the plastic shroud, I would not buy used as they get brittle and crack. I lost mine a couple years ago on way to Fla. All that was left were four small pieces under the screws. Secondly unless it is something special, I think he is drilling you as I got a new one at rv place down there for as I recall about $150.
  • Same here in western Montana
All the dealers in Zoo Town MT. are exactly the same
Bret RV is the worst of the worst
No way I will ever shop in town when the very same thing can be had for less than 1/2 the price delivered
  • Your local RV dealer has a lot more overhead and expenses than Amazon.

Ask your local dealer to "work" with you. Tell him what you stated here and that you'd like to support your local dealer, if he can make that possible.

Same thing around here ... if I'm lucky enough to find something locally, rv related or otherwise, it has a generous "local advantage tax"' (mark-up) applied to the price.

I understand the local shopkeep has to keep a roof over his head and pay his employees the king's minimum wage but crazy mark-up like the one you describe drive folks away.
