I think you will have a bigger issue due to your truck height. I'm not sure either choice you list is gonna work. You need to measure and plan your bed rail clearance.
His tires are only 1.5" taller than stock, only half of which raises the truck, and and the leveling kit is up front so really he's not much higher than a stock truck overall. Still might need to lift the trailer some as many do with the newer HD trucks.
Hitch wise I'd go Andersen. I like mine better than any fifth wheel hitch I've used. It has the advantages of a gooseneck setup (smooth, articulates well, idiot proof hitching) without the leverage disadvantage of a gooseneck adapter.
I see that you have the same truck. Do you have a leveling kit or bigger tires? How do you have the Andersen configured on your truck and trailer? My bed rail height is 59" and I believe the new 5th wheel already has the springs over the axles.
Thanks for everyone's input. I think bed rail clearance is my biggest concern now
I stuck with stock tires because I didn't want to screw around with getting a bigger spare. But I think they're 33.5" tall so they're not much smaller. Also no leveling kit but from a geometry standpoint that would actually lower the back of your bed rail if anything because your rear axle is the pivot point.
I have a rail mount version which I use in the flipped back position. I can turn at full lock going forward with no contact either direction. Going backwards I could make it hit if I really jackknifed it but there's really no reason to crank it that tight.
