Another day in the park.....

Fun day today, got up and got a call (in that order) from a friend about a mile away, he is watching the weather channel, Tornado watches, high winds so I go down and bring in his awning, (And mine) alas, all for naught, no wind to speak of, just some rain.

Then on my way back to the RV (I have not had a chance to make my morning coffee yet) my neighbor tells me the water has been shut off, Seems a different camper was backing her RV, missed the power box, but hit the water pipe solid. Shot water a good 15-20 feet in the air.

(Thankfully my on-board tank is fuller than I really want it to be so not a problem for me).

Then off to the store to pick up a couple needed things and make CHEESECAKE for tomorrow's pot luck supper at church (Navitiy of Our Lady, Darien, GA).

I do not use the oven often, Normally I use the electric toaster oven, but to do a cheese cake I need the "Big one" Turned out real nice though, now in fridge doing it's "overnight" before serving tomorrow about this time. got the dishes done, and now dinner is steaming.
  • 106 gallons!!!!!! Even during our boating weekends we used about 12gal per person per day & that included a quick fresh water rinse almost every time coming out of the water after a swim.

These days 100gal tank, 80 or so usable, lasts a week for 2 of us.

We have 5 kids with us :B Four of them are girls.
  • 106 gallons of fresh water a day? Holy smokes, we can make our tank last about a week and I believe ours is around 50 or 60 gallons. We have 2 teenage daughters too. But, we try and use the campground shower as much as possible.

  • We have a 106 gallon fresh water tank. That's about a half ton of extra weight in the very back if full when traveling, so I keep it between 1/4 - 1/2 when driving.

We go through about one tank per day, so usually each night I top it off before bed, disconnect all the hoses and put everything in the water bay, where I also have an electric heater and a remote thermometer. Here in Denver a week ago with the record low temps the heater was a life-saver. One a side note, they say to leave the grey/black water traps closed when it's freezing outside (my MH manual atleast), but that proved to be the wrong move for us. The day after we arrived in Denver it dipped below 0F and both exit valves were frozen solid. It took 2 days with the electric heater in the bay and eventually spraying warm water all over the pipes that it came loose. Now, I leave the dump traps open and make sure the hose is on a solid decline to the pipe. No issues this way, yet.

Now, to figure out how to get the salt washed off my MH :/

Oh, and cheesecake sounds good, but I think we're making soft pretzels tonight :)
  • I was told to keep the fresh tank empty if you drive allot. The extra weight consumes fuel. So I should do the opposite. Fill the tank and cycle often ?? It makes perfect sense to me. Thank you for the comments.

    Dave :S
  • Add me to the list above- I always carry water and keep it full. Never got caught empty, but did end up without water twice.
  • Fresh water tank is always full.......got caught once many many years ago.
    Once was enough.

Lot of the time we just run off tank and fill as necessary
  • First thing we do when we pull in for the Winter... fill up on water because you know there will be problems.
