On the 3 valve V10 I have, yes it is a good power plant. Nice semi flat torque curve. She has a drink'in problem but creating the power comes with a cost. I have the 5 speed Torqueshift tranny and it holds in high gear well.
I have heard good things about the 6.2 V8 as well. The ratings they are putting on the truck with the 6.2 and 4.30 rear axle are more then mine. I'm with the 6.8 V10 with a 4.10 rear axle rated at 21,000 GCWR. The 6.2 V8 with the 4.30 in the F250 is 22,000 GCWR and in the F350 SRW 6.2 V8 with the 4.30 is 23,500 GCWR
Don't really know why SRW and 1 ton truck changes the pull ratings but it does. The V8 I'm sure is higher Rev'ed to get it, but it can.
I have 107,000 miles on mine now and as long as gas does not go nuts in the $4/gal or higher I see no need to upgrade right now. It pulls all I need. Trying to get another 60 to 90K more miles out of it before the new one comes.
