That's so true. Many a time I've had to restrain myself from telling someone to try a search engine first. If they are so dependant on computers they should at least know how to use one.
I just don't trust others to make my decisions for me and it surprises me how much others do just that. I can't imagine asking for directions here on how to get from A to B and not confirming those with at least a map first.
With the GPS, it's a pain to see the whole set of directions before I start out to make sure they're right (I do check to see that the ending point is correct). So, I write down instructions using maps (paper and or online), directions from others, satellite imagery, etc. Then as the GPS directs me, I compare those to my written directions and if they differ, I follow the written.
I have also noticed that GPS and online maps get coordinates wrong. So, I always double check the coordinates with satellite imagery and "match up" the directions with the satellite image so I know it's the right place. I will then pull the coordinates from the satellite imagery and use that in the GPS (usually a different set of numbers than the online maps or website gave me). I use FlashEarth for my satellite info.
