I think sometimes people post "questions" about where they should go more for social reasons than actual information they cannot find anywhere else. They want to share their upcoming trip and enjoy the dialog surrounding it.
On topic: GPS to me is a map, with the added benefit of showing where I'm at on it. I HATE the way Google maps insists that you must be zoomed in far enough that you can see your dot moving down the 500' section of road its showing. I want a 1-2 hour view of the map, with me on it. Once you zoom out any amount, it stops panning the map to show where you are.
Google maps was awesome when trying to leave downtown Seattle though complex lane changes and turns back to the freeway.
