Actually, the continuous output is not the limiting factor. The continuous load from an air/con is typically around 1200-1500w. Even the little Honda 2000 with a 1600w continuous can handle that.
The issue is getting the compressor started, so it's the peak capacity that counts.
We have a Yamaha 2400. Bought it about 10yrs ago when there were far fewer options. It runs the air/con fine and we typically have the TV, fan and fridge running once started without issues.
