Not anywhere totally safe anymore, even your home. An acquaintance was shot and killed while eating dinner in a Denny's in Houston last week. Just picked the wrong time to be there eating dinner, as it was being robbed.
Campgrounds are some of the safest places there are, IMHO. Mostly families, older folks much of the time, not in poverty (at least not till they bought their RV) Suspect we have all met others that the thought of doing something like that has occurred to us. A few years back, I was in a campground laundry when a middle aged woman came in and announced to everyone that she was with the caravan that had just arrived and they had priority use of the laundry facility and asked everyone to take their stuff out of the washers and dryers till she was finished. She seemed surprised to hear the language that was directed toward her by the others in the laundry. That could have been mob violence very easily. LOL
