Any Advice On This?

Not exactly a double post, but I did ask a similar question on the Pet Stop Forum. However, I then figured that the very nature of the forum might introduce a sampling bias in the responses. So anyway my problem is this: I've been solo RV'ing for two years now, semi full-time, and I'm thinking about getting a little dog to keep me company. But looking back on the places I've visited and the things I've seen and done, I get concerned that a furry friend might be a big impediment to my freedom. I'm thinking about the type of situation where you have to hurry back to camp because you know the dog's bladder is getting on to inflation mode. On the other hand, I'm sure a dog would be a good companion. So, any advice out there would be much appreciated.

Incidently, the original responses were 14 pro getting a dog and 2 con.
  • Same biases will show up here! If you can't care for a dog while traveling then do NOT have one!
  • You named several of the reasons we won't travel with a dog or any pet. But I can understand your need for a companion. How about a cat? They tend to be more self-sufficient when left alone.
  • We're luck our little pup can last 10-12 hours without having to be left out. We usually leave the radio on and close the blinds and she enjoys her time for herself.
  • Like everything else...it all a compromise of some sort.
We wouldn't be without our 2 girls (dogs). The people we camp with have 3 kids and no dogs...I'll stick with the dogs.
