Ply "ratings" do not mean the actual number of plys in a tires.
Stick with Load Range or the actual number on the side of the tire.
I was under the impression that these days ply ratings are just another way of expressing the load rating. 6 ply means C, 8 ply means D, 10 ply means E....
They do have absolutely nothing to do with the number of layers of material actually used in making the tire, at least partly because the materials used have changed dramatically over the years.
