Any experience with the Atwood Air Command A/C ?

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum and if not, I trust the moderators to move it . . .

My 2018 Vintage cruiser came stock with a 13.5 K BTU Non-ducted Coleman A/C which is SO loud you can barely carry on a conversation or hear the television when it's running. I saw online discussion where folks had replaced it with the Atwood Air Command which is supposed to be much quieter and much more efficient.

I'm wondering of anyone else has done this and what were your results?

Good idea. Thanks for doing that. Start a new thread with your readings when you do.
  • I'm going to take decibel readings with my sound meter for a comparison once the install is done.
  • Yep, I have the 15,000 BTU unit also. It replaced a Carrier which had replaced a Coleman. The Air command is quieter than the previous two but I did switch back to ducted with the Air Command.
  • I have one and love it. Much quieter and definitely cools better than the Coleman it replaced.
  • We have had our Air Command unit for a couple of years now. It is quieter than our old Dometic unit but not by a whole lot. It does a fine job of cooling our trailer and the same goes for the heat function. I would purchase it again if needed. We use portable electric heaters more however because they are quieter than the Air Command blower.

OP, in your case, I don't think you can get the heat function in the smaller unit that you would need for your RV.

All the above said, I don't think I would purchase one just for the noise factor. You have a perfectly good air conditioner that is only a year or so old and the Air Command unit is not going to be that much quieter to make it a worthwhile purchase, in my opinion.

  • I'm not concerned about heat . . . The times we do need heat we use a small electric heater or the gas furnace. Our 19ERD Vintage Cruiser can pretty much be heated with a toaster! LOL!
  • I like my Air Command so well I purchased a second one. Yes it is quite.
  • I had one on my coach for one year. On air conditioning it was fantastic. Quiet, lots of air flow and per my RV tech is rated for 15,000 BTU, but actually closer to 18,000. Had it taken off because it was also a heat pump. As for heat pump it was totally useless. Would run, make heat,, then shut off. It abdolutely would not raise the temperature in the coach, not even one degree. Several others had the same experience at that same time. That was a year ago. It was working exactly as Dometic said it was supposed to. That was NOT when it came to heat. Not sure if Dometic has fixed it. If you don’t care for heat it will be great.
