Unfortunately the situation may not change for at least a year or until there is a fix if you get it or a vaccine before. The virus isn't going away on its own and we will have to exercise Social Spacing until one or the other happens.
Head for home when you are ready Take your Purell into the motel rooms, wash your hands, don't touch your face and wear a mask. Not much more you can do to keep safe.
Whenever we had to stay at a motel we would take our sleeping bags from the camper and lay them over the covers and hope for the best.
