We aren't afraid of traveling.
But with your age and pre-existing lung conditions, it does make sense to isolate as much as reasonable.
I would plan to call ahead to hotels to discuss if there is an option to get a room that has been sanitized and left to sit for a day or two before you get there.
If your health allows it, I would look to push longer days if you can trim a day out of the driving.
