Afraid to travel now? Heck no. We're heading out Sunday with friends to do some camping and RZR riding for the week. We haven't been staying home much. This virus thing is just a bump in the road. Frankly I don't think this bug is any worse than the seasonal flu, which also kills tens of thousands, but doesn't make the news or takes away our liberty and freedom. Hopefully, sanity will soon return.
When was the last time the seasonal flu killed 50,000 people in one month and averaged about 2000 a day?
It’s becoming obvious that this was in North America much earlier than first thought!! And, due to some of the aggressive measures taken.....the mortality rate is fairly comparable to the flu. memtb
2000 a day with the country locked down? Give me a break.
Wilber, I believe that I mentioned the “lock-down” in my post! However, some places have “not” gone to “lock-down” measures.....and their mortality rate is “not” substantially higher than the flu. I think that once the numbers are finally tabulated, we will see that while it is extremely infectious.....the mortality rate is not extreme. The high mortality numbers appear to be due to high infectious rates.....not to the high mortality percentage! JMO, and time will tell! memtb
Only a matter of time, there are plenty of examples of how mortality rates go through the roof when health care systems are overwhelmed. The 2018 case mortality rate for influenza in the US was 0.135%. Right now the rate for Covid 19 is 5.7%. 42 times higher.
They are also finding this virus is affecting other organs. Stroke rates for people in their 30's and 40's are up and post mortems are finding many of the victims had asymtomatic Covid 19. There is just an incredible amount we don'd know about this virus.
