There is a balance being germaphobic versus having common sense. I will pull out and use RV gloves to use the sewer hose. Will I go full NBC gear with a decon station nearby? No. I do believe in using a bleach wipe on the faucet, but that's as far as I go.
With a soiled pit, if people are behind me, I'd probably find somewhere else to go. If nobody is behind me, I'd probably spray the area with some soap, hose it down, then follow up with a bucket or two of bleach water (rinsing that down as well). It won't be hospital sanitary, but at least it will be clean enough to do a dump and leave a fairly clean area for the next person.
