Th older I get, the more carefully I need to aim, besides the seat is up.:B
No, I don't put it down afterwards either. If a female needs it down, that is HER problem.
My wife and I settled that 41 years ago.
It's because of the cat.
Now, if the seat and/or lid were up, he might be inclined to try to drink from the bowl. We keep the bowl clean, so that's not the problem.
If I were to walk past the bathroom and see the cat with all four paws balanced on the rim of the bowl, tail held high, face down in the depths to reach the water... Well, I wouldn't be able to resist the urge to sneak up behind him and tip his fuzzy butt right into the water - head first. Perhaps close the lid and flush a couple of times just for effect.
I'm sure that I would find this hilarious, and that the cat would not. Therefore, I remove the temptation by always keeping the lid closed.
To get back on topic... I use gloves when dumping. Not because I'm afraid of germs, or because I don't want to risk getting black water on my hands. It's because of people who think nothing of shoving the CGs hose up into their dump pipe to rinse it out. I don't want to handle that hose with my bare hands after some disgusting, inconsiderate dirtbag ahead of me has "marked their territory" with it.
2X regarding the cat! LOL
Also, due to Murphy's Law, I've fished out toys, hairbrushes, toothbrushes and one cell phone over the years. I've successfully trained a houseful of boys that the lid stays down.
