J,I usually agree with your posts as they are well thought out ...this one is not. The OP was not discussing the over use of hand sanitizers or the advertising industry.....he/she was discussing a foul unsanitary and potentially hazardous infectious action taken by an ignorant person. There is no sense in attempting to defend the indefensible or in attempting to down play such a disgusting and stupid act. Those who attempt to by stating "I don't wear gloves and never have" only display their own lack of knowledge and participation in unsanitary practices. Following what seems to be your logic all homes should just discharge their waste into the street and let it run into the storm drains. Human waste is foul and disease causing....that is why societies finally instituted sanitary sewer systems and placed regulations on septic systems. The Romans figured that out over 2 thousand years ago and ancient armies learned the benefit of moving their latrines away from water sources and the camp.
I think you may not have interpreted what I said the way it was meant or perhaps I didn’t state it correctly…
I completely agree that what the OP described is a disgusting and stupid act and is indefensible…
My post was not in defense of the OP’s described act for anything more or less than what it was, but to the reaction and fears some have about things of this nature…
Much of the fears IMO are driven by the advertising industry in an effort to sell or oversell products for profit not for education or need or health reasons…
Having family members working in different aspects water quality and/ or in plumbing and in sanitation related business, I know the risk and benefit of using good sanitary practices… we can disagree on what they are but much of public opinion is molded by advertising biases… that could be why advertising works and cost so much…
But please, I don’t think I advocated anything like or close to draining raw sewage onto the ground or into the streets and storm drains… only that some people develop tolerances and build up immunity to different environments they are exposed to…
which is still not the same as saying they should ignore known safe practices…
But to say because one uses gloves they are not exposed to the same or worse conditions may or may not be so…
I see people wear gloves then handle the gloves carelessly is this practice any better than not wearing the gloves in the first place, or wear gloves so they can continue to use leaking connectors and hoses contaminating the area… then there are some that just discard the used gloves on the ground… using water tight connectors and hose can reduce risk at least as much…
