I used to pump septic tanks and only wore gloves to handle to hose. We even had to go down into some after they were pumped to inspect the baffles on the inlet and outlets. Nawp,it doesn't smell in there only after the gases hit the outside air.
A couple of years ago we watched two guys who appeared to be a little bit on the gay side, like in "The Birdcage",pull up to the dump site at an RV park in Marysville,Ca in an older Class C, probably mid '80's, and proceed to raise the right rear wheels about 5" or so on wood blocks. After they did this, one of them went around with a hook and pulled the valve handle and let it run out towards the drain with no hose at all. I went and got the manager and when he saw it he called the police and they wrote the guys a ticket for dumping their sewage on the ground. I will say that it did look as if they had done it before as they really seemed to hit the pad quite well. They did wash it all down. They threw a real hissy fit at the park manager too for calling the police.
