I normally do not carry trimmers while campin. I have, however, climbed up on my roof and snapped off dead branches from pine trees located in the National Forests. I would not take it upon myself to do any pruning in private campgrounds. If I suspect vegetation that could damage my rig in a private campground, or RV park, I will either ask for a new site or ask for some pruning. If the management is unwilling to act, I will go somewhere else.
In my opinion, this is the only correct answer. And you need to extend it to Public Parks as well. I know a few years back a guy got fined $10,000 for cutting down a relatively small tree in a Yellowstone Park campground. His reasoning? It made backing in easier. Leave the tree trimming to the owners and management. You might only want to cut away a few small branches, but the next person will think it is OK to cut down a 40 foot tree to get satellite reception. As I often say, "Everybody wants to be in the forest, but no one wants to be around trees."
