We saw the results of someone cutting a limb off of a tree at Pine View campground (USFS) in northern Az. They were handed a citation for $500. and told to vacate the site without any refund of their camping fees.
The perpetrator had received the same flier everyone else had, stating " No cutting of trees and no gathering of wood within the campground."
I think camping in a USFS site VS KOA campground are two completley different things. If I can't fit in a site because of low limbs / foilage in a USFS then that's OK because I am in the forrest. NOW, If I can't get into a site at a KOA because the grounds were not / are not being maintained properly then that is an entirely different situation.
I've seen a reoccuring theme here and that is KOA campgrounds seem to be the least maintained when it comes to tree limps scraping the sides of our campers. It's happened to me at the local KOA.
So you feel you have the right to alter to someone elses property to accommodate yourself without consulting them first.:E
I guatantee that I would prosecute to the full extent of the law.
I never stated that I feel it is ok or feel that it is right to alter someone elses property without asking first. I stated that there is a difference between trimming tree branches that have been overgrown in a KOA campground VS cutting overgrown branhces in the National Forest.
I think a paying camper at a private campground can reasonably expect their camping rig to not be scratched from side to side or on the top while utilizing a camp site that is appropriate for the size of the rig simply because the campground owner refuses properly maintain the said camp site by trimming the overgrown tree branches.
Another thing that a lot of people are veering to in this conversation is the removal of whole trees. For some reason I am not sure why people are jumping to this conclusion. Yes there is a difference between simply trimming a foot off a low haning tree branch and the removal of a whole tree. I don't think anyone of sound mind would think that it would be ok to cut down a whole tree.
edited to show that you wrote within my own comment. fixed.
