I've lived in the woods for 16 years and only camp in the woods, thank you. I was referring to the uninformed that think that cutting a limb will kill a tree. Kinda like the people that think that animals have more rights than humans do.
I think you've missed the point of most folks' objections to the practice- it's a property rights issue. Your cheap siding/rubber roof/too-tall rig doesn't trump my tree.
I, too, live in the woods, and unless you're a LOT more casual than I am we both know that if without permission anyone hacked a single branch off one of the trees on our property there'd be H-E-double-pitchforks to pay.
Actually I think you are kind of missing the point - no one is saying they are going to drive through your private property and cut down tree branches. Why would they drive on your property?
NOW if you are a campground owner and charge people to stay in your campground then not only is it in your best interest to make camp sites as accommodating as possible but may even open yourself to legal liability for the damage of others property (TT, MH) if it is found that your campground (open to the public) is not being properly maintained. Maybe maybe not but I would go down that road...
and this is exactly why it is the responsibility of the CG operator to do this not the camper and not without proper permission up front…
so you without permission cut back a branch to position your rig without scratching its side… only a little bit of the branch not the whole limb you wouldn’t do that right…
do you now assume all liability for that branch that you trimmed,
of course not, it’s still the camps responsibility even for the law suit brought because of a sharp improperly trimmed limb that pocked someone’s eye while he was setting up…
the improperly trimmed branch being the very branch that you trimmed back for your convenience…
or the next rig is even higher or parked differently and that now sharp less flexible branch pokes and cuts the roof instead of sliding across it… is the camper now accepting the libility for trimming the limb but not enough for the next guy… ya right…
it is the CG place to do these maintenance repairs, not the campers place to deface the campground property for your comfort level…
not happy and the owner not immediate responsive ask for another site or don’t stay there…
there is a reason why this is against the rules at almost any campground... without the rules a CG would turn into a barren desert by everyone trying to be helpful...
