Anyone have damage from blow-only winterizing?

I blew out the system hoping to get in another trip. But we have had -14 degree nights and the weather looks bad in the future so it is storage time. But now the pump is frozen though I ran it after draining. So I am running heaters and the furnace to get everything thawed so I can add the pink stuff I had ready to use. Live and learn.
Also, we use our water system for everything except coffee which I bring home water for. Always have for 40 years of camping and have never had an issue with taste or illness. Clean the system every spring and go camping. That is what it was made for!

It is simple. Pink stuff no worries. Blow out it's your choice, but keeping my fingers crossed all winter isn't reassuring to me.

We drink bottled water so taste isn't a concern for us. However we do flush and drain with bleach water.

well there are federal, state, and industry requirements. check the FDA web site.

It's not just the oil, there is filthy water in there too. Did you ever drain an air compressor tank? Would you like to add that oil, water and bacteria to your coffee?

I use the pink stuff but still regardless of how I winterize I never drink the water, never have, never will.

Both of my Air Compressors are oil less, so that is not an issue. There are also filters, anyone that uses the compressor to paint knows that.

I wounder if the bottled water, advocates know that there are very few requirements for testing, then there is the plastic bottles that it is stored in.

So far I see more people that have had issues with the blow out method, none with the pink method!

Wow.. This has got to be a record # of posts in a short time for "blow or pink" post.. 9 pages and all I got out of it is that BOTH methods work...

Just for the record, I blow my lines out and since 2002 no issues... :)

I only put pink stuff in the drains.. It's what works for me.. :)

Blow method since 1995 only thing I forgot once to blow out the P traps. Yes one broke.

Leave all lines open after blow out. Start with the closest and proceed one valve at a time and repeat. I would never put that %#@!^ in my lines. You need a good air compressor to do a good job. I have the wife open the valves and close while I administer the air.

I started out with just blowing out the lines, then something didn't feel quite right with me about it. I picked up a winterizing kit and installed it and did the anti-freeze. Good thing I did. When I opened faucet valves enough water came out to possibly freeze in an elbow and split it. Then I did the toilet, wow, the whole line must not have drained when we did just the air while the wife stood on the valve. Glad I did it before we had cold enough weather to do any damage. I think I will do the anti freeze from now on.
