We all have our favorite method of winterization. Some blow with compressed air, some use antifreeze, some do both. I've always done both.
But I'd like to simplify and use compressed air only. So I am asking: has anyone here used the air-only method and experienced freeze damage?
Of course I know that I still need to add antifreeze to the traps.
I noticed when blowing the lines (50 psi) that after the water is expelled the gurgling never seems to stop, but it is diminished. So I think that at least some water remains.
David,
Back in the early days I had two cases of damage with blow out only.
One with an old travel trailer that had copper plumbing and one on a 77 motorhome that had pvc.
Blowing the lines out will leave a small amount of moisture in the pipe and condensation will make a little more. All of that will collect at the lowest point. If there is enough moisture, cold enough temps, and unforgiving plumbing you will have a problem.
The newer units have pex plumbing that is a bit more forgiving and most have low point drains in the appropriate places.
Blow out only should be enough, but I will continue to use the pink stuff.
