I live on the Canadian Prairies and have never had an issue using the blow out method on any of our units. There's nothing wrong with the pink stuff but for me, dewinterizing with that stuff is a pain.
How?
If I'm feeling in the mood I'll blow it out first(the pink) and then use water. If I'm lazy, and that's often the case I'll just chase it out with water. Either method with leave the taste of pink for a while but I just won't use it for drinking water till it's either gone or I do a bleach/vinegar clean out of the water lines.
Keep in mind I'm out a half dozen times during the winter camping, use my water system in the frigid temps and DW actually usually winterizes, NOT me.
I usually winterize by blowing the lines 1st then running pink through them, uses less pink. Have a small 1 gallon compressor with me for that job as well as tires and the like.
Less than $4 for a jug of pink, why take a chance just blowing it out?
