I retired at 56 after 30 years in construction. Union carpenter doing metal studs, drywall and the last 7+ years was a foreman for one of the biggest drywall companies in the U.S. Just like working with the public was a PITA, try working outside when it's 38* and raining day after day. Or when it's 90-100 and you're packing a tool belt and having to wear all the safety gear they shove on you. The door never hit me on the way out because I was too fast leaving. Best thing I ever did. Everyone of my friends in the trade left when they got their 80 and out. Years plus service. Full pension for life.
I understand someone wanting to stay working longer. But those people usually have jobs they really enjoy and aren't under stress everyday.
I should add that I have plenty of stuff to keep me busy if I want. I'm only sitting here typing this because I'm taking a break. This morning I did a rear gear oil change on my Ram 2500. Then removed the Ram 2500 emblems. Dinked around on a couple up coming projects to see what might work. I never really get bored except for the dead of winter. Wife has a couple years to go before retirement or we wouldn't be here in the winter.
