Well, I retired at the end of last year, at the age of 60.
I worked for the state of California for over 35 years, the majority of it as a firefighter/EMT.
I had seen too many co-workers wait too late to retire and died soon after finally calling it quits.
I swore that I would retire as soon as I could, while I was still young enough to enjoy retirement.
Because of my job, I'd had 7 knee surgeries, an elbow surgery and shoulder surgery, so I needed to quit before something serious happened.
Plus I was old enough to be most of the guys's father.
So far, i have no regrets and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.
Do I miss firefighting, sure but you can't do it forever.
