I don't regret retirement, I love it. I wanted to retire at 40, unfortunately, I wasn't financially able to make that mark.
I really wish I had been born rich instead of good looking, :B so I had never had to work.
The scenario I had for retirement was, to go to school for the first 20 years, then go to work for the next 20 years, then retire, unfortunately, no one wanted to pay me enough for 20 years to allow mw to do that.
I was able to do exactly what you had planned. Went to college on an NROTC scholarship, spent 20yrs in the Navy, retired at age 42 in 1990 (will be 25 yrs this July) and haven't worked a day since 1990. When I retired we were debt free and owned our home and DW never held a real paying job except for raising our two fantastic sons until I retired and they were out of the house. She then sold homes part time for 15 years just because and to provide our "play money" for traveling. We have never lacked for any necessity and now both our SS incomes are our "wild money" to foolishly spend as we wish. Life is GOOD:B
Love the retired life and we just spent 2 months at Disney World at Fort Wilderness over last Xmas, just got back from a 1mo trip to Detroit, and Niagara Falls and head back to Disney World and Fort Wilderness for another 2 months from Oct to Dec of this year.
Only regret might be is that I can't afford a $2M Prevost MH and not sure I would really like it that much, but would like to be able to afford it just to say I have owned one.
