Anyone not want to retire?

Most folks goal, seems to be, to retire as soon as possible.
It has been my experience, that, for many folks retiring was the greatest thing they ever did. But for others it is the worst thing they ever did. I think I would be in the latter group.

But sure seems I am in a minority when it comes to wanting to keep working. Any thoughts or experiences?

  • I counted down the last 1000 days before retirement. It has been 23 years now and I never regretted the decision to retire at 55 years of age.
  • On the street I grew up on, the father of one of my friends worked for 40 years at the same aerospace company. Monday Through Friday, 8 hours per day. He never had a day off (no sick days/ no vacation days) except for a week he took to go back east after his mother passed away. He retired and within a year he died at a young age of 71.

I plan to retire as soon as it is financially possible. I look forward to working on projects around the house and travelling in the RV as much as possible.
  • We had no choice. When the economy tanked in 2008 my job ended, two months later DWs job ended. I was lucky to find a temp job for 18 months or so to carry me to 65. Did I want to retire? Yea, but on my terms not theirs. Was I glad? Yea, medical issues in the family I was able to be a care giver for MIL in her last days and DW during some serious medical problems, so it turned into a blessing.

As a Pharmacist, I work with the general public. If you have ever done that, you need no explanation. If you have not, no explanation will suffice. I can not WAIT to retire!
