I had a 1970 VW Westfalia camper van that I towed from California to North Carolina. Was never a problem. Just don't try and back up with it attached. Drove it for seven years as a daily driver after that trip. Make sure the transaxle is topped off with oil before towing. I had a flat bumper made to attach a tow bar to that mounted at the same mounting points where the front bumper attached. I removed the standard front bumper when towing,
