  • Does anyone have a video monitoring system where they can use a smart phone or tablet to check on things without going thru an alarm company?
  • We have a system. It allows me to control thermostat, lights, and security from my phone. I can set it to receive notifications for all kinds of changes. It monitors for fire as well.
  • I use this thermostat from Honeywell: Amazon Link
You can set a high/low temp, and it will email you cell phone. Uses your home WiFi to connect. Also has an app that allows you to view the thermostat and make changes.
I also have a Lynx 5100 Alarm system that also monitors temps and has flood sensors etc.
  • My monitored system has temperature and water in addition to the standard motion and door/window contacts.

I like the peace of mind.
  • I have one from Amazon that detects water in a malfunctioning sump pump, loss of power, and low temp. It is a Control Products HS-700.

    Amazon Link

    For under $80.

I have had it call me for power failure and then call back when power is restored. I also have someone locally who will check when there is a problem if I call them. The unit will call 3 phone numbers and also sounds an audible alarm.

Works well for me and gives me piece of mind.
  • We just ordered the Simplisafe system. Rated 3rd best in alarms and NO expensive contract required. Can be tailored to your needs and monitoring is less than 50¢ a day.
