Anything new in Hilton head?

We're heading down first part of June and we haven't been to hhi in about 3 years. Anything new must see or do?

  • It certainly is more upscale than what I prefer too but we enjoy stopping in every so often. I like that there are not signs all over and things are more hidden off the road. That's what Google maps is for, use it. I can't afford to golf there. The nicer courses are too pricey for my blood. The beaches are quite nice but the parking lots seem to be targeted by thieves breaking into cars every day. Be careful. There is an underground culture of druggies that, like other places, comes out at night and will take advantage of a situation to get what they need. Don't go walking on the beach at night, especially alone. The Hilton Head harbor RV park is beautiful but pricey too at 49 to 60 dollars a night. Be ready to put up with horrendous traffic too.
  • We have been vacationing at Hilton Head for last 20 yrs or so. If you are not used to where everything is is certainly can be difficult getting around. We started going there before kids were in school and liked all the bike paths and lack of glitz/lights, etc. We missed last year due to work schedules so I'm not sure what might be new there. I always read the What's New on Hilton Head website before we go.

I went there a few years back and it certainly was not my cup of tea... No where to get close access to the beach. Everything seemed way overpriced... Even had trouble finding the WALMART hidden back off the road with no signs...

Parked my truck a few blocks away from the beach front - walked around a little bit. Had lunch - visited the Walmart (hehe) then headed back to Charleston/Sullivan's Island/Isle of Palms... Felt like it was too richie for us...

Might have been a bit better if we had reseached it first...

    Just my take on it...

First visit I couldn't find anything. I agree with what you said. Then though we've been there five more times and have learned the tricks. City has a handful of beach access parking lots. Cheap parking and very nice with showers and other amenities. City web site has map. Far as the finding stuff... Once you know where stuff is you appreciate not having to look at big neon signs. we like going there and our boys like it.

Overall Hilton Head is a more upscale place. But it does have great restaurants, access to great golf and tennis and great bike paths. It is more adult oriented and less kid friendly Nice beaches.
I like it for what it is ,but I agree it is not for everyone.
